Rules & Regulations


  1. Entries in all classes can be made via the website www.widecombefair.com or by post; Cattle and Sheep to be made to the Hon Agricultural Secretary: Debbie Dracup,  Broadaford, Widecombe-in-the-Moor, Newton Abbot, TQ13 7TX and Pony and Horse Classes to the Hon Agricultural Secretary: Hannah Fursdon, Lowertown Farm, Poundsgate, Newton AbbotDevon, TQ13 7PQ.

  2. Deadline for entries: 23rd August 2022. No late entries will be accepted for any Classes. 

  3. Entrance Fees (to include P&P), insurance details and acceptance of Rules and Regulations must accompany all entries.  No entrance fee shall be refundable on any account including the partial or total abandonment or postponement of the Fair.

  4. All horses, ponies, cattle and sheep to be on the ground by 8.30 am and none will be admitted after that time.

  5. All exhibits to remain on view until after the Parade of Prize Winners. Winners of the horse and pony classes are requested to take part in the Grand Parade.

  6. No person shall enter the space or enclosure set aside for the judging, or hold any communication with the judges or examining veterinary surgeon without permission from the steward.

  7. If at any time the judge should have cause to doubt as to the soundness of any livestock, they shall order such livestock to be examined by the shows veterinary surgeon, whose decision shall be final.

  8. All cattle and sheep must be the bona fide property of the exhibitors.

  9. No stock once entered can be substituted for another animal and any person who enters stock must be the same, unless the non-exhibition of an animal be caused by the death of the animal or animals, contagious disease, or any unavoidable cause in which case shall be proved by a veterinary surgeon's certificate or otherwise to the satisfaction of the committee.

  10. Any competitor who causes delay will be disqualified.  The Committee reserves the right to cancel any event or class.

  11. The Widecombe Fair Committee Co Ltd reserves the right to judge classes in the order they think fit.

  12. Only one prize in each class will be awarded if there are only two entrants and only two prizes will be awarded if there are only three entrants.

  13. The judges decision is final.

  14. Cups will be presented on Fair Day and Winners are required to sign a receipt and have their name and date engraved on the Trophy at their own expense.

  15. ‘LOCAL’ shall be deemed to mean that the owner lives in the parishes served by “The Parish Link” or Buckland-in-the-Moor at the closing date of entry.  For Local Riding Classes, children attending Widecombe School will be eligible.

  16. All age restrictions to be counted up to and including Fair Day.

  17. It is the Owners’ obligation to keep animals watered.

  18. It is the Owners responsibility to ensure that any handler of the livestock, or rider of their horse/pony is of suitable physical capability and stature, experience and age to be in charge of that particular animal.

  19. All persons mounted on horses or ponies, whether competing or not, must wear a hard hat to the relevant British Safety Standard. The committee recommends the use of protective headgear whilst horses are being handled on the show ground.

  20. It is recommended that any colt or stallion, three years and over, should wear a bit or chiffney at all times when being handled.

  21. Exhibitors entering more than one class must, if class times clash, decide which class they wish to attend.

  22. Mobile phones will not work on the showground and are not permitted when a competitor or other person are controlling an animal ie holding, leading or riding

  23. Exhibitors/competitors must at all times follow the instructions of the Show Officials and take all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of themselves and others on the showground.

  24. The organisers reserve the right to refuse entry or to request an owner to remove their horse or pony from the Showground with immediate effect and without refund. 

  25. Widecombe Fair Committee would like to remind you that Horse Passports should be available if requested.

  26. Competitors and Exhibitors in all classes must hold their own Public Liability Insurance, which must be valid and up-to-date.

  27. The Widecombe Fair Committee Co Ltd does not hold itself responsible for any accident, loss or damage to persons, animals, machines or property that may occur.
